Apparently Comcast had the magnificent idea to re-brand their cable, internet, and phone services under the new and fantastic, oh who are we even trying to kid here, HORRIBLE name XFinity. Comcast rolled these changes out to 11 cities including Chicago on Friday February, 12, 2010.
According to sources, XFinity is meant to promote Comcast’s “digital technology prowess.” Comcast plans to continue operating their company as a whole under Comcast with the XFinity brand being a sub-brand of the company that controls cable, internet and phone service. They will change everything you see normally, so your remote, repair guy, bills, everything will now have the XFinity brand name slapped on it. Comcast is clearly trying to rebrand themselves to attempt, and I must stress that word as much as possible, their tainted image from the years or poor service and quality.
The re-branding is being release to help Comcast release a new customer experience that they claim will be backed by outstanding customer service. Unfortunately changing a name does not change a problem. Though they claim that they are not trying to distance themselves from the tainted brand that Comcast has become you have to wonder, what the hell are the big shots thinking over there? XFinity? REALLY? It’s not really that shocking that Comcast wants to try to send a new message about their company and that they plan to do so with a new name but I’m sure they could have come up with something a little more central to what their business is and does rather than pick the letter X and slap some term after it to make it a “cool,” “exciting,” “hip” brand. I think someone over there has been watching a little to much Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and have taken XTREME to a whole new level of idiocy, get it? It’s like eXtreme and Infinity, XFinity. I would absolutely love to have been in that meeting room to hear them decide on this disaster of a new name.
They have released a few commercials already and to me they’ve taken a step backwards, I don’t know if they whipped these new ones up super quick just to get the name out there or what, but these commercials seem very generic, which is humorous considering they talk about the change to XFinity being an “upgrade” ha ha ha. See for yourself make your own opnions of XFinity’s new commercial.
What will this atrocious new name actually do for the company? In all honesty probably not much in the grand scheme of things. Comcast has been around a while now, they’ve been consistently dominating the markets they are in and have some how managed to still grow. Though the new name is horrid and poses very little benefit at this point to Comcast at least we all know where our hard earned money is going.
